It’s really hard to believe another seven days have passed and not only is it a week later; but it’s October already. October… Where has the year gone? Here’s what you may have missed this week on The Football Project.
Manchester City drew quite a few headlines this week thanks to what may or may not have been discussed on the bench during their Champions League clash with Bayern Munich. Carlos Tevez reportedly refused to warm-up and come on a substitute causing Roberto Mancini to declare that the former club captain will never play for City again. To end the week, James Hunt wrote a letter from the heart to Tevez regarding his actions during the midweek.
To start the week, Ryan Keaney questioned some of the off-the-field antics of Manchester City. Before Tevez and his “misunderstanding” on the bench, The Football Project Editor looked at how often City reference their neighbours Manchester United and whether it is actually a good thing.
The bottom club in the Premier League at the end of this weekend and going into the international break is Bolton Wanderers. They have not been very good so far this season and Simon Furnivall is on hand to ask an awkward question: Has the hype around Owen Coyle disappeared? There are some damning statistics that back up the suggestion that Coyle hasn’t been as successful as the English press have declared.
North of the border, Gary Linton penned an excellent piece on the history of the Scottish Cup. Clear, concise and fascinating in equal mesaures; it’s everything you need to know about Scotland’s oldest national competition.
Elsewhere Paul Fisher was on hand to run the rule over Celtic and Rangers so far this season. Nothing much can be read into the Scottish Premier League title race just yet, even if Rangers have streaked out in front this weekend.
And if you haven’t had enough of Scottish and English football with all of that, you can also check out the eighth episode of The Football Project podcast. Tom Hall of the Scottish Football Blog as well as the aforementioned Gary Linton and Paul Fisher joined Ryan Keaney to discuss the English and Scottish top flights. Sunderland, Queen’s Park Rangers, Bolton, Celtic, Newcastle, Rangers, Hibernian an Motherwell are amongst the host of topics picked apart by the panel.
Give it all a piece of your time.
