Just in-case you were a little bit like our editor this week and lost a day thanks to a big hangover, we’ve only gone and recapped everything we did on The Football Project. Here our the last seven days in a single post, just in case you missed something.
Free spending Malaga were at the centre of much conversation during the summer. Having found themselves some lovely, cash-rich new owners, they spent the off-season signing up a raft of new players and as Jake Miller explains Malaga’s start to the season has been pretty good, but their game with Getafe? Just stupendous. It’s been widely called the game of the La Liga season so far. Two of the goals were real belters and worth you finding out about.
Just one month ago, Ross Dunbar and Paul Borthwick debated Hamburg’s season. Neither of the men expected it to continue as poorly as it had started; but now, they are back to decide upon who should be the new HSV manager. Michael Oenning was relieved of his duties by Frank Arnesen and the hunt is now on for a new man in charge.
After a disastrous couple of opening games, Tottenham have quickly become everyone’s choice to finish in the coveted fourth Champions League spot. The recent victory over Arsenal in the Premier League only helped to back up that theory. Simon Furnivall took a look at Spurs as well as where their threats will come from for the European berth.
Gary Cahill’s will he/won’t he move from Bolton Wanderers to Arsenal was a topic for much conversation throughout the summer. The centre-half was supposed to the cure to all of Arsene Wenger’s problems but as guest writer Tomasz Mortimer asks, is Gary Cahill really as good as people believe?
Carlos Tevez refused to play for Manchester City last week. You could be forgiven for forgetting who City played on that night as it hasn’t been discussed at any length. The “situation” that occured on the bench has been covered way more than the loss to Bayern Munich and as Andy Hunter explains, that is a very good thing for Roberto Mancini – the only man boosted by the Tevez drama.
They may not seem like the most obvious of bedfellows, a greying Londoner and a ginger Glaswegian, but Alan Pardew and Alex McLeish certainly have something in common. They were both appointed to rather unfriendly responses and have both started the season pretty, pretty well. Simon Furnivall tells the story of the unwanted managers.
Neil Bellis is also on hand to tell you the story of Ivory FC, the Sunday league team boasting former England manager Terry Venables in their coaching staff.
We also produced a podcast this week. Episode Nine of The Football Project features pre-recorded interviews with twofootedtackle’s Gary Andrews, Scottish Television’s Grant Russell, The Football Project’s Andy Hunter and In Bed With Maradona’s Dave Hartrick all discussing Euro 2012. The qualifying campaigns of the home nations are dissected, the recent evolution of the England squad is evaluated and a glance is cast towards the tournament this summer.
It’s all good stuff for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
