There are very few people who, as fans of football, would turn down the opportunity to manage Futbol Club Barcelona. However, as Premier League followers have witnessed at Manchester United this season, it can sometimes contain more pitfalls than positives.

Throughout history there have been sporting sides with members in it who are often an after thought or deemed to not be as important as others. The headlines following Barcelona’s Champions League tie with Manchester City largely centred around Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi but there would be a good argument to suggest that their goalkeeper Victor Valdes was as, if not more, important in the Catalan’s win.

With a higher scrabble score for his name (eight to seven), we can’t help but look at the numbers and think Cristiano Ronaldo deserved to win the 2013 Ballon d’Or. The trick will be repeating the feat and proving the vote wasn’t won more from sympathy of having to compete against the man that had won each of the previous four titles.

It’s just days away and you can almost taste it, the return of the best league in the World, no, not the English Premier league, no, not even the Bundesliga. It’s not the Italian; don’t be stupid, it’s of course the Spanish Primera División – La Liga.

Next season will see Sevilla line-up without the influence of Jesus Navas who had been with the club for ten years, it will be without the goals of Alvaro Negredo who’s been their highest goal-scorer since joining the club 4 years ago and they will be under the guidance of a newish manager in Unai Emery, for me, they will do just fine, in fact, I’d say it now, they’ll do better than last season.

After suffering a relapse in his fight against throat cancer Tito Vilanova has stepped down from his role as head coach of Barcelona. Having returned to the club earlier this year after missing two months of last season (after another relapse) there was hope that the worst was behind him.

In the last 15 years Atletico Madrid have had a beautiful habit of replacing great strikers with other great strikers and with them signing another forward in the summer transfer window it doesn’t seem like that habit is stopping.

When Neymar’s deal to Barcelona was confirmed a few weeks ago it came as little surprise. Negotiations had been underway for a considerable amount of time and his destination appeared inevitable. Having spoken openly about his admiration for the Catalan giants and rumours circulating about supposed down payments already being agreed, the only question remaining was the total transfer fee.
