There are very few people who, as fans of football, would turn down the opportunity to manage Futbol Club Barcelona. However, as Premier League followers have witnessed at Manchester United this season, it can sometimes contain more pitfalls than positives.

Throughout history there have been sporting sides with members in it who are often an after thought or deemed to not be as important as others. The headlines following Barcelona’s Champions League tie with Manchester City largely centred around Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi but there would be a good argument to suggest that their goalkeeper Victor Valdes was as, if not more, important in the Catalan’s win.

With a higher scrabble score for his name (eight to seven), we can’t help but look at the numbers and think Cristiano Ronaldo deserved to win the 2013 Ballon d’Or. The trick will be repeating the feat and proving the vote wasn’t won more from sympathy of having to compete against the man that had won each of the previous four titles.

How could Josep Guardiola possibly improve a side that has just won every trophy possible the season before? Why does a coach who has lead the best players in recent times to unprecedented success at Barcelona really deserve that much credit?

With Joe Hart’s lack of form and Asmir Begovic scoring against Southampton at the weekend the subject of goalkeepers has become very relevant over the last week or so. One of the few clubs who have no qualms over their keeper is Tottenham Hotspur who in Hugo Lloris posses the best in the league at this moment in time.

It’s just days away and you can almost taste it, the return of the best league in the World, no, not the English Premier league, no, not even the Bundesliga. It’s not the Italian; don’t be stupid, it’s of course the Spanish Primera División – La Liga.

In 25 days and 13 hours time, the 2013 summer transfer window will “slam shut” across Europe’s top leagues. A few associations close their windows earlier in the day and a couple hang on for an extra hour or two; but on September 2nd 2013 there will be a huge sigh of relief that the whole thing is over.
